Flip.
Prior to becoming a teacher I never knew FLIP existed. It wasn’t until my Induction coach/mentor introduced this amazing resource to me. A resource that has become essential to my yearly plan and essential for the students. Throughout the year I used FLIP as a way to record the students’ English and Spanish fluency on a daily basis for homework. The reason I chose FLIP to practice fluency is because FLIP can act as a voice for the students to hear reading or simply to allow students to reflect on their prosody as it’s also an essential part of reading comprehension. I have also received positive feedback from parents that they like the reading with flip especially when parents are busy with other things as it holds their student accountable for doing their fluency practice.

Spanish Word Work.
This year I struggled with finding enough resources to support my students in their Spanish vocabulary or spelling. For this reason, I created a resource that has helped my students engage with our weekly vocabulary/spelling but also incorporated our district’s “Maravillas differentiated readers” curriculum for DLI 3rd grade. Not only this but the students’ spelling test scores improved when I started incorporating this in my class as well as their vocabulary scores. As a DLI teacher it can sometimes be difficult to find Spanish resources that are more inclusive to all levels of students. Presented here is just one page of the many words I created to correspond with our Spanish curriculm.

GOMath
Think Central has been essential this year because it gave me the opportunity to pull resources for pre and post assessments to check students’ progression/understanding with concepts. It has also allowed me to pull resources to practice and familiarize my students with what a math performance task is as it will be present in the CAASPP testing helping me better prepare my students for IAB’s.
